Team Viya Makes It To The Playoffs!

St. Thomas, St. John, and St. Croix USVI – September 28, 2023

Viya proudly congratulates Team Viya for their impressive performance in the Department of Sports, Parks and Recreation’s Government Softball League. In the team’s inaugural season, they not only competed with energy and pride but also made it to the playoffs — a remarkable achievement!

Led by Team Manager Richard Julius, 30 enthusiastic players represented Viya in 18 games this summer, facing off against teams from government departments and semi-autonomous agencies. Julius reflected on the season saying, “It was an honor to practice, play, and win with my colleagues this season. This was the first time we played as Team Viya, and the experience has truly strengthened our bonds both on and off the field. While we didn’t advance past the first round of the playoffs, we’ll regroup, refocus, and return stronger next year.”

Team Captain Bernard Jude, who last played when the company was known as “Innovative,” expressed his excitement at the team’s return: “It’s amazing to see our team revived after twenty years. We came together with a few veterans and many first-time players who gave it their all. I’m incredibly proud of our team for reaching the playoffs in our very first season. We’re already looking forward to next year’s league.”

CEO Geraldine Pitt also shared her admiration: “I’m proud of the members of Team Viya, who have been outstanding ambassadors for our company, demonstrating sportsmanship and team spirit throughout the summer. A special thanks as well to their colleagues and supporters who cheered from the stands at every game.”

Even after their playoff exit, Team Viya remained actively involved in supporting the league and fans. On September 16, 2023, during Fan Appreciation Day, CEO Geraldine Pitt presented two lucky fans with MiFi devices, each including one year of service. The following weekend, during Player Appreciation Day, two Team Viya players also received MiFi mobile hotspots with a full year of service. Altogether, these prizes were valued at over $4,500.

CEO Pitt concluded, “On behalf of Team Viya, we look forward to continued collaboration with the Department of Sports, Parks and Recreation. We are excited to participate in upcoming leagues and to support teams and fans through innovative initiatives that keep us connected to our community.”

Viya’s Hurricane Preparedness Reminders

St. Thomas, St. John, and St. Croix USVI – June 5, 2024

In the face of impending severe weather, hurricanes and disasters, Viya emphasizes the importance of staying informed through local radio, television and social media channels to receive updates from the US Virgin Islands premier telecommunications provider.

Viya’s website is a useful customer care and billing portal that allows customers to receive assistance and critical information 24 hours a day and seven days a week. Viya’s Facebook page is another source of real-time updates in the event of a disaster.

Viya also encourages customers to sign up for the Virgin Islands Territorial Emergency Management Agency’s alert system to closely track the path of impending storms and actions that are being taken by the local government. Viya advises customers to include critical communication equipment on the list of things that they should consider as they prepare for Hurricane Season. Ensure that modems and wireless devices are adequately charged and secure spare power sources in the event of the loss of commercial power. In addition to devices such as smartphones and hotspot devices, Viya encourages customers to include accessories such as phone chargers, solar chargers, and battery banks in their communication preparedness kit.
