Feeling Safe Has a New Meaning

Safety used to be something people associated with physical spaces. Locking doors. Knowing neighbours. Avoiding certain areas at certain times. Today, safety has expanded into digital spaces that people move through just as often as physical ones. In Guyana, daily life now involves online payments, ride bookings, social media interactions and shared locations. People coordinate pickups, send money, share travel updates and store personal information on their phones. Convenience has increased, but so has the need for awareness. Being safe today is less about fear and more about habits. Simple actions like updating passwords, avoiding suspicious links, checking app permissions and being mindful of what is shared publicly have become part of modern life. These habits are not dramatic. They are practical. As life becomes more connected, safety becomes less about isolation and more about smart participation. One plays a role in this by supporting secure, reliable access, while the responsibility of digital awareness remains in people’s hands. In a world that moves quickly, feeling safe is no longer about stepping back. It is about knowing how to move forward with confidence.
