Hope starts with action

Awareness matters. What we do with it matters more.

Prostate, breast, cervical and colorectal cancers together account for 46% of all cancer diagnoses recorded this year, with prostate cancer now the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Guyana.

These numbers remind us why screening, early detection and knowing our individual risks are so important.

Know the ‘Four’

The four cancers behind nearly half of all diagnoses.

Prostate Cancer

Prostate cancer is now the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Guyana.

Men, take action.

Speak with your healthcare provider about your risk and whether prostate cancer screening, including a PSA test, is appropriate for you.

Breast Cancer

Breast cancer remains the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women in Guyana.

Know your breasts. Notice changes. Get checked.

Speak with your healthcare provider about the screening that is right for you, including mammography.

Cervical Cancer

Cervical cancer remains one of the most commonly diagnosed cancers in Guyana, but prevention and early detection can make a difference.

The Ministry currently offers an $8,000 Cervical Cancer Screening Voucher for women ages 21–65 to access HPV testing at approved facilities.

Women, prioritise your screening.

Parents and caregivers can also speak with a healthcare provider about HPV vaccination for their children.

Colorectal Cancer

Colorectal cancer can affect both men and women, and early disease may not always cause obvious symptoms.

Know your risk. Pay attention to changes.

Speak with your healthcare provider about when screening may be appropriate for you.

Don’t wait for symptoms

Screening is not a sign something is wrong.

Screening can help identify some cancers earlier, when there may be more opportunities for treatment. Getting screened means you are taking an active role in protecting your health.

Make the appointment. Have the conversation.
Encourage someone else to do the same.
